Cincinnati chamber recognizes local organizations

The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber today named ProSource, Flynn & Co., Hightowers Petroleum, Ronald McDonald House and Infintech as winners of its annual Small Business Excellence Awards.

The program honored companies in five categories: small businesses with 51-250 employees; small businesses with 1-50 employees; minority; nonprofit; and emerging. The winners were chosen from four or five previously announced finalists in each category.

In addition to the winners, the chamber named runners-up in each category. They are: Triplefin, Progress Supply Inc., MBJ Consultants, The Children's Home and Incite Visual Communications.

Keynote speaker Mark Daly, who owns his own business management consulting firm, told attendees at a Wednesday luncheon honoring the winners that organizations should use independent boards of directors to help guide their success. A survey of this year's finalists found that more than 61 percent do not have formal boards, and that 52 percent don't even have advisory boards in place.
